Who takes an online firearm safety course?
People enroll after instructions from a court, probation office, diversion or pretrial program, school, employer, attorney, or another organization. Gun owners, family members, and people who may be around firearms also take safety education voluntarily.
This is an educational online course. It does not provide hands-on firearms training, certify shooting proficiency, issue a carry permit, restore firearm rights, or give individualized legal advice. If someone directed you to take a course, compare the required topic, hours, online format, deadline, and certificate instructions before enrolling.
What our firearm safety curriculum covers
The outline below is based on the current source curriculum and was checked against the live progressive LMS assignment.
1. Course overview
The scope of the course, why consistent safety habits matter, how the assigned lessons work, and what the online format can and cannot teach.
2. Legal responsibilities
A national overview of ownership responsibilities and the need to check current federal, state, and local rules rather than relying on a generic course for legal advice.
3. Fundamental safety rules
Treat every firearm as loaded; keep the muzzle in a safe direction; keep the trigger finger indexed until ready; and know the target and what is beyond it.
4. Safe handling and operation
Clearing, loading, unloading, transferring, range commands, mechanical safeties, and responding to a malfunction while maintaining safe direction and trigger discipline.
5. Secure storage at home
Preventing unauthorized access through locked storage, attention to ammunition, child and visitor safety, theft prevention, and planning for a household crisis.
6. Safe transportation
Unloaded and secured transport, vehicle considerations, travel planning, and the need to check the rules that apply to the route and carrier.
7. Responsible ownership and maintenance
Sobriety, emotional control, maintenance, continued learning, knowing personal limits, and asking a qualified professional when a firearm needs service.
8. De-escalation and non-violent alternatives
Situational awareness, leaving avoidable conflict, calm communication, seeking help, and treating a firearm as a last resort rather than a tool for winning an argument.
Course work: the assigned path includes instructional lessons and knowledge checks. Complete the material and assessment steps attached to the hour version you select.
How the 4-, 6-, 8-, 12-, and 16-hour versions differ
The live course uses a progressive eight-part curriculum. Each longer version includes the earlier material and adds a later assigned safety topic.
- 4 hours: course overview; legal responsibilities; fundamental safety rules; conflict de-escalation and non-violent alternatives.
- 6 hours: adds safe handling and operation.
- 8 hours: adds secure firearm storage at home.
- 12 hours: adds safe firearm transportation.
- 16 hours: adds responsible ownership and maintenance, completing all eight topics.
Curriculum review
Your certificate of completion
We produce the completion certificate in-house. It is part of the course—there is no separate certificate charge.

- Make sure the participant information in the course record is accurate.
- After the requirements are met, our system generates the certificate.
- Download and save it, then submit it exactly as the requesting authority directs.
Issued certificates include a certificate ID and verification code. A certificate ID can be checked through the site’s verification route when the corresponding record is available. Course completion does not prove that a recipient has accepted or processed the document.

Will a court accept this course?
Firearm-safety requirements are not uniform. A court, probation department, diversion program, employer, licensing body, school, or another organization may require a specific number of hours, an in-person component, hands-on demonstration, live-fire instruction, provider credential, deadline, or certificate format.
Confirm the requirement before enrolling. Our online course provides education and completion documentation; it does not grant legal authority to possess, carry, transport, or use a firearm.

Firearm safety course FAQ
Does this online course include live-fire or hands-on training?
No. It is an online educational course. It cannot evaluate physical handling or shooting proficiency and does not replace live-fire, in-person, licensing, or hunter-education training when one of those is required.
Does completing the course give me a firearm license or carry permit?
No. A completion certificate is not a license, permit, restoration of rights, or legal authorization to possess, carry, transport, or use a firearm.
What are the core safety rules covered?
The curriculum teaches treating every firearm as loaded, maintaining safe muzzle direction, keeping the trigger finger off the trigger until ready, and identifying the target and what lies beyond it.
Does the course address secure storage?
Yes. The curriculum covers locked storage, preventing access by children and unauthorized adults, theft prevention, and planning when someone in the household may be at risk. Hiding a firearm is not the same as securing it.
What if my paperwork requires hands-on training or a particular hour total?
Use the hours and training format stated in your paperwork. If the requirement mentions hands-on work, live fire, licensing, or a particular approved provider, confirm directly with the requesting authority before buying this online course.
Will I receive a certificate of completion?
Yes, after completing the assigned lessons and assessments. We generate the certificate in-house. Submit it according to the instructions you received; the certificate does not itself prove that a particular authority accepted it.
